New Booster Seat Law in Michigan
Parents of children ages 4 through 8, take note: On July 1 a new law goes into effect requiring the use of child safety booster seats in motor vehicles for children who are between 4 and 8 years old and who are under 4 feet 9 inches tall and weigh less than 80 pounds.
A University of Michigan Transportation Research Institute study shows parents are more likely to use booster seats if there is a law requiring it. Research also shows that more than 90 percent of children between ages 4 and 8 who are seriously injured in auto accidents are not restrained in a booster seat.
