Michigan
Promise Scholarship
Michigan Promise Scholarship begins
with the graduating class of 2007 (no
longer called the “MEAP Scholarship”)
- Under the new Merit system, there
are two ways to receive the grant:
Students who meet the established
qualifying score on the Michigan Merit
Exam would receive $2,000* toward
their first two years of college or
technical training and would then
receive the remaining $2,000* after
completing those studies.
- Students who did not do well on
the exam could earn the entire $4,000*
award after successfully completing
two years in college or vocational
training.
*The specific amount of the grant
is subject to pro-ration in future
years.
The legislation deletes the
$500 award for middle school students
and brings down the original amount
of the high school award from $2,500
to $2,000 for the first two years
of college.
