Summary of Counseling Services Available
to Students and Parents
Counselors will initiate contact with
students regarding the following:
- Yearly
course selections, including necessary
schedule adjustments
- Academic problems
upon referral from parents, teachers,
or students
- Non-academic problems relating
to attendance, discipline, etc., upon
referral from administration, parents,
or students
Counselors will respond to requests
from students, parents, and teachers
in dealing with personal conflicts or
concerns.
Counselors will communicate with students
and parents regarding college selection,
admissions testing, and financial aid
information by way of
- Home/Counselor
bulletins
- Letters to parents
- Group meetings
- Individual meetings
Counselors will guide students through
the career exploration process by way
of
- 9th grade - DAT Aptitude Test
and Career Survey
- 10th grade - Two-day
decision-making unit in Religion class
Includes knowledge about world of work,
a short career survey and follow-up
information
- 11th grade - Review of PSAT
(optional, taken in Oct.) and ACT career/interest
survey results included with test scores
- 12th
grade - Senior survey, checking deadlines
and applications for post high school
opportunities
