Superintendent's Corner

Preparing students to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society.
Dear Friends of Grand Rapids Christian Schools:
Grand Rapids Christian Schools’ mission statement, seen above, was drafted many years ago. It is a statement that has withstood the test of time. In anticipation of developing its next five-year strategic plan, the Board of Trustees reaffirmed the mission of our schools last fall, noting that it is as relevant today as it was when originally developed. This statement of purpose is so much more than a motto at Grand Rapids Christian Schools. It guides our work and - in simple terms - clearly articulates to the world who we are and what we are called to do.
During this current school year there have been amazing opportunities for us to prepare students to serve their Lord and Savior. They have occurred every day in our classrooms, in chapel, on our performance stages, on our playing fields, and in many off-campus environments. We cannot express strongly enough how very honored we are to serve the wonderful students entrusted to us.
As the current school year draws to a close this spring, we diligently plan for the beginning of a new school year in the fall. Though our planning often focuses on budgets, operations, and facilities, the process of preparing for another year at Grand Rapids Christian is so much more than a set of numbers. Reflected in our planning are the faces of the students we are called to serve. Reflected in our budgets are the faculty and administrators who are enabled to do what they do best – fulfilling our mission statement in their interactions with and education of our children, grandchildren, and other young people who spend their days with us here at Grand Rapids Christian.
What a privilege! Thank you for partnering with us as we equip children and young people to use their minds, hearts, and hands in service of God and neighbor.
Sincerely,
Tom DeJonge
Superintendent
