There is important news
about the future of Grand Rapids Christian
Schools.
In May 2007, the Schools received a
generous, unexpected donation to fund
a comprehensive new strategic plan. It
was a timely gift, because the existing
strategic plan will be completed at the
end of the current
school year.
The Strategic Planning Committee, a
standing Board of Trustees’ committee,
held a two-day planning retreat, June
5 & 6, 2007, to gather input on critical
issues facing the Schools. Seventy members
of the community attended, including principals,
teachers, board members, parents, alumni,
and pastors. They provided valuable insight
and ideas on how to strengthen and sustain
Christian education for the next generation
of children.
At its September 17, 2007 meeting, the
board approved six new strategic initiatives
for further study, dialogue, and action.
These six areas will form the essence of
the Schools’ new strategic plan.
Once defined and adopted, this plan will
set the Schools' direction for the next
several years in six important areas:
- Spiritual
Formation, Chair Lois Brink
- School Program,
Chair: Tom DeJonge and Tim Wiersma
- Funding Models,
Chair: Jay Laninga and Eric Burgess
- Financial
Viability, Chair: Lon
Swartzentruber
- Reflecting
God's Kingdom, Chair: Jim Primus
- Visibility
within the Community, Chair:
Eric Burgess
