POSITION TITLE: STEAM Teacher (K–4th Grade)
BUILDING: Grand Rapids Christian Elementary School Iroquois (GRCES IR)
CONTRACT: Full-time, shared contract with GRCS and Brighton
REPORTS TO: GRCES, Iroquois Campus Principal
COORDINATES WITH: Technology Integration Specialist, Media Center Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY
The Grand Rapids Christian School STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) teacher will work collaboratively with K–4 classroom teachers to develop and teach integrated STEAM lessons as pathways to guide student inquiry, discussions, and critical thinking.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES | INSTRUCTION AND INTEGRATION
- Partner with grade-level PLTs to integrate aligned research and inquiry projects during STEAM class.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to design and lead STEAM activities aligned with their learning targets.
- Gain a deep knowledge of content standards and effective instructional strategies that give student agency in STEAM while aligning with the classroom curriculum.
- Engage students in STEAM learning using an open-ended, problem-solving, design thinking approach to learning that fosters a growth mindset for staff and students.
- Manage the STEAM lab by providing supplies, organization, clear student expectations, and positive communications and behavior reinforcement.
- Grow in expertise of content area and pedagogy through ongoing professional development.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge, understanding, and commitment to a reformed Christian educational worldview
- Valid elementary Michigan Teaching Certificate
- Knowledge and understanding of elementary education practices
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Preferred: Fluency in the Spanish language
