POSITION TITLE: Stage Company Shop Foreman

OVERVIEW

CONTRACT/STATUS: Hourly Position  (2024-2025 school year)

REPORTS TO: Director of Theatre & CAW Technical Director

COORDINATES WITH: GRCHS Stage Company Production Team

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Director of Theatre and Technical Director, the Shop Foreman will serve as chief carpenter and fabricator of scenery for the Stage Company’s Fall, Winter and Spring productions.  The Shop Foreman will also oversee a committee of student workers on each production after school and during tech weeks and performances.

ESSENTIALS OF A GRCHS SHOP FOREMAN

• Implementing and maintaining safety standards with regard to work in the production spaces, performance spaces and storage areas.

• Assist in constructing and mounting stage scenery for all productions and special performance events.

• Overseeing good and safe day-to-day working conditions in the scene shop construction area, storage work areas and the general appearance of those areas.

• Along with other Stage Company Staff members, instructing and working with production practicum students and volunteers in areas of set construction and operation care of scenery.

• Be available after hours for emergency troubleshooting and repairs of scenery and stage equipment, especially during tech week.

• In association with the Technical Director, ensure secure storage and proper use of theatre department property.

• Assist in post-productions strike and storage/disposal of scenic elements.

• Train students and volunteers to use school equipment to ensure safety and shop procedures are being adhered to.

• Conduct inventory of shop supplies on timely basis and inform Technical Director of needed supplies.

• Conduct inventory of shop hand and power tools each season and inform Technical Director of any missing tools or tools in need of repair.   

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor of Fine Arts in Theatre or equivalent experience

• Excellent skill level in carpentry and metal fabrication

• Able to lift and carry +50lbs

• Good organizational and supervisory skills

• Willingness to adapt to a very flexible work schedule
