PS–8th Grade (GRCES Evergreen, GRCES Iroquois, Rockford Christian School, GRCMS)
Students may bring cell phones, smartwatches, and personal devices to school but must keep them off/silenced and stowed away for the entire school day and while on campus. Devices may only be used with explicit adult permission and supervision, including for parent contact, which must take place in a teacher’s presence.

Taking photos or videos of students or staff without permission is prohibited. Use of any device in restrooms, locker rooms, classrooms, or other private areas is strictly forbidden. Sharing or posting unauthorized images may result in consequences, including loss of privileges, suspension, or expulsion.

Enforcement
Any unauthorized device use will result in confiscation. Devices must be retrieved by a parent or guardian. Repeated misuse, possession of inappropriate material, or violations during testing will result in further disciplinary action.

9th–12th Grade (Grand Rapids Christian High School)
At GRCHS, we are committed to creating a learning environment where students can flourish academically, socially, and spiritually. In support of this goal, all personal devices that are not school-issued—including cell phones and smartwatches—must be off your person and out of sight from the moment you enter the school building until the end of the school day.
This means that devices must be:

Left at home, in the car, or in your locker, or

Stored in your backpack turned off and not visible or accessible during the day
For students who would benefit from additional separation from their device, the main office can provide a secure storage option.
Earbuds/Headphones
Earbuds/Headphones may only be used in classrooms or the learning commons with permission from a supervising staff member. They may be connected to a school-issued laptop for completing assignments or listening to music, but only when approved by faculty or staff.
Communication
If students need to use their personal device for a specific reason during the day, they must go to the main office to receive permission. Students may also use the office phone when needed.

Classroom Exceptions
If a teacher would like to use personal devices for a particular learning activity, they must seek approval in advance from school administration.
Medical or Educational Exceptions
Students who require access to a personal device due to medical or learning needs will work with the school counselor or program coordinator to develop an individualized plan. This plan will be communicated to relevant staff.
Consequences for Violations
If a student does not follow the personal device policy, the following steps will be taken:

Device is taken by staff and turned in to the main office.

The student may retrieve it at the end of the day.

Device is taken and turned in to the main office.

A parent must pick up the device at the end of the day.

The student will turn in their device to the office each morning for five consecutive school days.

3rd Offense and Beyond:

Device is taken and turned in to the office.

The student must turn in their device to the office daily for an indefinite period.

The student will complete an educational program focused on healthy technology habits.

A behavioral contract may also be implemented.

The building principal or designee reserves the right to assign additional consequences for personal device use based on the severity of the incident and other related handbook violations.
