Advent Devotional

Hope

By Hope Alvesteffer, Class of 2023

Hope is consistently a virtue that is highly valued in the Bible. It is a recurring theme, and it even appears in one of our school’s favorite verses, Isaiah 40:31 which reads “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Hope is an important part of the New Testament as well. It is embodied during the advent season as we await Easter. During the Christmas season, we are gifted with the greatest gift of all time- Jesus. As special and as meaningful as His birth is, the reason it is so exciting is because we are filled with hope anticipating what is coming — Easter! Jesus’ birth can be utilized to excite us to celebrate his life, as well as prepare our hearts with hope and gratitude for the sacrifice that is to come.

Dear God, we thank you for today and that we are able to come together as a school to celebrate Jesus’ birth this Christmas season. Although there are uncertainties surrounding the ability to safely celebrate with family this season due to covid, we praise you through it all. Please fill our hearts with gratitude and hope as we prepare to celebrate the birth of our Savior.
