Grand Rapids Christian High School 2013 graduate, Emily Schuitema, officially joined the Wood TV8 Storm Team 8's Meteorology team as of this past Friday, April 19.

Emily also attended Ada Christian and Rockford Christian schools.  After graduation from Grand Rapids Christian, she went on to earn her degree in Climate and Meteorology from the University of Michigan in 2017.

Emily previous worked as the morning news meteorologist at WSAW-TV, a CBS affiliate in Wisconsin.

From Wood TV8 here are 8 things to know about Emily:

1. She grew up in a family of hardcore Michigan State fans and then went to the University of Michigan where she graduated from the Michigan College of Engineering in 2017.
2. She is a West Michigan native and even interned at Storm Team 8 in 2015 while in college at U of M.
3. She has two giant Bernese Mountain Dogs!
4. She spent a summer on the top of Mount Washington forecasting for hikers on the Appalachian Trail.
5. She is the youngest of 3 girls.
6. She spent the last two years working as a meteorologist in the Northwoods of Wisconson, where she grew to love a lot of things about the state, especially the cheese!
7. One of her favorite hobbies is baking.
8. She loves to run and hike and has spent time exploring mountains in Colorado, Hawaii, New Hampshire, Vermont, California, and even Alaska.
