Attendance

When a student is late or is absent from school, we ask that a parent/guardian contact the school office attendance line at 616.574.5990 or send an email to ev-attendance@grcs.org by 8:00 am.

It is OK to let the student(s) teacher know as well, but it is most important to contact the school office. Teachers are busy in the morning and aren't always able to check their emails at the start of the day.

If the student is not reported late or absent to the school office, calls will be made until we can be certain of the child's safety and well-being.

Students who arrive after the school day has started must check in at the school office to receive an admission pass.

School Hours and Contact Information

The school office is open from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm on school days. The GRCES–Evergreen office may be reached at 616.574.5900. Please leave a message on the general voicemail if no one can be reached. Also, feel free to contact Carrie Doezema, administrative assistant, at cdoezema@grcs.org.

  • K–5th-grade student drop-off may begin at 7:45 am, class starts at 8:00 am and
  • Preschool students may begin to go to their class at 8:10 am, class starts at 8:25 am

This is to ensure that teachers have enough planning time in the morning before students arrive. Should you need your student to arrive earlier than these times, please consider enrolling your student in Kids Care.

Likewise, all students should be picked up 15 minutes after dismissal. Students who are in the building past this time must be under the supervision of Kids Care after-school program. Please make every effort to have your student picked up in a timely manner.

Peanut Free Campus 🥜

The Grand Rapids Christian Schools consistently have students who are diagnosed with severe and potentially life-threatening allergies to peanuts and sometimes other food products. As a Christian school community, we have a legal and ethical obligation to follow physicians' recommendations to safeguard their health. Therefore the Evergreen campus along with all Grand Rapids Christian Elementary Schools has been designated a peanut-free campus. To read more about GRCS's Peanut-Free Policy please see the Health Section of the GRCS Handbook linked for you here.

In addition, some classrooms with students who have more extensive and life-threatening allergies may have further restrictions. Those restrictions will be further communicated by the classroom teacher.

School Lunches

School lunches for K-5th grade can be ordered in the classroom by 8:00 am each morning or for latecomers in the school office until 9:00 am. Because lunch is prepared off-site and delivered to us we cannot make late exceptions. If you are emailing or calling in a late student please indicate if you need a school lunch ordered for them.

Preschool students will preorder the week's lunches through a Google form that will come from the classroom teacher. Please have the form filled out by 8:30 am on the first school day of the week. Please call the school office if you need to update a lunch order for a preschool student.

GRCS food service provides a school lunch on full days of school only. Lunches cost $2.95 and include milk, white or chocolate for K-5th grade, and white only for preschool. Children may also order milk only to have with their home lunch at the cost of $.50.

You may access your student's lunch account as well as the application for free/reduced lunch benefits at grchristian.familyportal.cloud.  When logging in for the first time you will need your students' id or account number. Please contact the school office for this information. There is no fee to deposit money into your child’s lunch account at grchristian.familyportal.cloud but you may also bring cash or a check to the office for deposit.

Free and Reduced Lunch pricing needs to be applied for each school year. Please make sure you apply/reapply before October 1 to keep this benefit.

Covid and General Health Awareness

PLEASE keep the school office informed of any symptoms, illnesses, and test results that prevent your student from attending school. All absences need to be reported to the school office (ev-attendance@grcs.org, 616.574.5990)

Thank you for keeping your kids home when they are sick. Children who have two or more cold-like symptoms, any child with a fever, and any child who vomits or has diarrhea should remain out of school for 24 hours after symptoms subside and without the use of medication.

Current covid protocols, should your student test positive, are to stay home and isolate for five (5) days and then resume activities in a well-fitted mask for five (5) days.

Please refer to our Parent-Sudent Handbook for more health guidelines.
