Evergreen Campus News

Spring is here, and it is time again for the Eagle Book Awards, 2022 version!

Twenty top-notch, highly rated, award-winning picture books written in 2021 have been selected by your 3 GRCS elementary school librarians. All 3 campuses (EV, IR, and RC) will be celebrating together —reading, enjoying, and evaluating these 20 books in April and May. Then, in the last week of May, students and staff will vote for which best picture book is the best for 2021-22. Think Caldecott Award- GRCS version!

Students who read all 20 of the books and rate them can become an Eagle Expert - earning a coupon for free ice cream at Culvers and spot in our celebratory video.

New this year: In an effort to make all the books more accessible to all the students (and not spend a fortune on multiple copies for all the libraries), read-alouds of each book will be posted as an activity in SeeSaw library classes. If students chose to "read" the book this way, they will hear the voices of Mrs. Bolt, Mrs. Boss (IR's librarian), Mrs. DenOuden (RC's librarian), Mr. Schultze, Mr. Barkel (IR's principal), Sra. Abreu (IR’s vice-principal and director of the Spanish Immersion program), Mr. Buursma (RC's principal), and Mr. Warners (RC's Director of Outdoor Ed).

Parents, you are invited to enjoy these books right along with your students. Here is a link to the 20 book nominees. These books can be checked out of the school’s library, the public library, or accessed as a read-aloud on your child’s SeeSaw account. If you need to access your student’s SeeSaw classes at home, here are some instructions.

Happy reading, and stay tuned for the announcement at the end of May for the 2022 Eagle Book of the Year!

Family Fun Night is coming Friday, May 13, 6-8 pm on the Iroquois Campus field. Join us! Wristband sales have started. The wristband includes all games and activities, popcorn, water, and an ice cream/popsicle choice. Your options for wristband purchases include one of three ways:

  1. Sending the paper form that came home back to school with your child,
  2. Using the credit card link found here: Family Fun Night - Grand Rapids Christian Schools or
  3. Purchasing them at the event itself.

We will process the submitted orders about once a week, so be on the lookout for yours coming home with your designated child.
