Transitioning to Virtual Learning on Wednesday 💻

The Governor and the Department of Health and Human Services announced new restrictions in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. Part of this plan includes all high schools moving to virtual learning effective Wednesday, November 18. The current plan would call for a return to in-person learning on Thursday, December 10 at GRCHS.

We have been preparing for this news, and beginning Wednesday, we will follow this virtual schedule. (Here is a black and white version for printing).

For tomorrow's schedule, students should plan on live (synchronous) instruction with each class unless their teacher has told them otherwise.

Please also take a few minutes to review our virtual learning commitments.

Check your email for full details!

High School and Attendance Office

The high school main office will remain open during virtual learning. Please feel free to call us with any questions or concerns that are happening during the school day. If your student is having attendance issues or will not be online, parents should report that to attendance. Parents will receive daily notifications about missed virtual classes. Be sure to follow up with the attendance office within 24 hours.

If you need to come to school in person for any reason, please call ahead. We will not be allowing drop in visitors into the building.

Attendance: 616.574.5521 (you may leave a voice mail) or email HSattendance@grcs.org

Seniors — Cap and Gown Orders Due on Friday! 🧑🏾‍🎓

Parents of Seniors, we sent out a reminder email this week with full details about ordering caps and gowns for the Class of 2021, including FAQ's about reusing gowns/items from previous years.

The order deadline is this Friday, November 20, 2020.

GRCHS requires only the cap, gown, and tassel to walk in the graduation ceremony. These are all included in the ‘Cap, Gown, and Tassel Unit’ for $32 under ‘Individual Products’.

Click here to see the Cap, Gown, and Tassel options.

Other grad items may be ordered as you wish.

Health Screening During Virtual Learning 😷

We will turn off the health screener text for high school students as long as they are learning 100% virtually. If you have students in person at other GRCS buildings you will continue to receive those.

Winterim 2021 Update

The dates are finally set! We will run Winterim 2021 on March 22 — April 1. Although many details are still being finalized, we hope to run most of our programming similar to previous years—with some exciting new options available this year as well.

One example: Internships for Winterim have always been a great option for juniors and seniors—this year, we’re opening them up to sophomores too!

With limitations to many workplaces due to the pandemic, finding placements may be more challenging, so students are encouraged to start looking for placements early.

And, if you are interested in hosting a student intern or would like more information, email Rebecca Polet at rpolet@grcs.org

More details to come next month and in January!

From the Athletic Department

Eagle Family,

The following has been sent to our coaches:

We have done and continue to do the very best for our kids.  However, we are faced with a new obstacle to finishing our fall volleyball and girls swim and dive tournaments along with starting winter sports.  On Sunday, the MHSAA announced that all practices, training, games, sport performance etc are all suspended effective immediately.

Coaches may only have virtual contact with your players until informed otherwise.

  • For Volleyball and Girls Swim and Dive: the MHSAA will explore every possibility to conduct a championship. Once again, you will have to lead your teams to keep them positive and continuing to do what they can individually to stay sharp. This is another challenge for us to meet with and for our kids and community. For our part, we will host anything, go anywhere, do whatever it takes to give our kids the opportunity they so richly deserve.

  • For all winter sports : the MHSAA will issue updated guidance on winter season schedules in the near future once the extent of this pause is known.

God bless you all. We so appreciate all of you and what you do for our kids, parents and community. Stay positive with your teams and we will push through together.

Jason Heerema

Athletic Director
