Seniors and Juniors

Powderpuff will be on Wednesday, May 12 from 1:00 pm — 3:00 pm at Eagle Stadium. We are limiting spectators to juniors (away side) and seniors only (home side); parents are welcome to come.

The International Student Program is looking for a little social media engagement help.

This could be done as a classroom internship for a semester (or year) during the 2021-2022 school year or it could be a paid position (about 3-4 hours/week). If you are pretty tech-savvy and have an interest in learning about the ISP and helping spread the word about GRCS, please stop by the International Student Program office (room 202 by the prayer wall) to ask questions, grab an application and talk with Mrs. Williams.

Part-time job with the football team

The football team is in need of 1-3 student managers to help organize equipment, film practice (with a camera and/or drone), potentially make highlight videos, and other activities to be determined. Hours would be in the morning during summer and after school in the fall. Students will be provided some Eagle football gear and will be involved on game days. Payment will likely be a stipend based on how much work is performed. Please email Coach Sundberg if interested at ksundberg@grcs.org or stop by room 220.

Want to welcome a little more Spain into your home?

Our GRCS community has the opportunity to welcome 8 students from Madrid, Spain for 8 weeks this next summer/fall. These students (9th and 10th graders) are excited to experience life in West Michigan! They want to live with an American family and attend classes here at GRCS for a few weeks. Are you interested in Spanish culture? Perhaps you are studying Spanish and enjoy hospitality. If so, then this could be a great opportunity for you and your family! Students will arrive in Grand Rapids on August 6 and depart in early October. Stop in the ISP office (room 202 by the Prayer Wall) to talk with Mrs. Williams for more information or have your parents contact Mrs. Williams at jwilliams@grcs.org or 616.574.5652.

Summer Gettysburg Trip

Mr. Vos (teacher at GRCMS) is offering a summer Gettysburg trip. June 27- starting at 6:00 PM, June 28, and June 29 for all history enthusiasts, regardless of age, interested in learning about the Battle of Gettysburg in a once-in-a-lifetime experience.  World-Class speakers which include: Garry Adelman, Doug Douds, and Jim Hessler will be teaching about the battle along with Jim Vos.  This is a unique opportunity because the typical person does not have access to these highly sought-after speakers.  The trip is limited to the first 36 paid participants.  If you would like more information regarding the trip, email Jim at jvos@grcs.org.

Global Ambassadors

Brazil, like many places around the world, was hit hard by the pandemic. One of our international students who was not able to join us in person this year has been working with his family to collect food and deliver it to people around their city of Sao Luis. This week Thursday, Global Ambassadors will be selling water bottle stickers to raise money to help this family provide for the community of Sao Luis.

Please stop by the lower town square during lunch and check out the sticker selection! GA is selling them for 1$.

Cookies and Conversation with a twist: Are you feeling stressed as it gets closer to exams? Come join us as we enjoy relaxing music, a chill setting, and a fun snack to counter the stresses of AP and upcoming exams. Thursday, May 6th at 7:45 am in Room 110.

FACES — Cultural Exchange

As many of you know, each year our school hosts students through the FACES Program.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Ambassadors were not able to attend last fall. However, the Guatemalan students have continued with their preparation in Guatemala and will participate in this Cultural Exchange in the 2021 fall and are eager to be a part of our community.

These young participants spend nearly two months living with a host family while attending classes and participating in extracurricular activities at school. The program has led to wonderful friendships and has provided our students and our guests with a widened perspective of the world.

If your family would like to consider Hosting a Guatemalan Ambassador during the 2021 Fall; we encourage you to join a Zoom Meeting hosted by the FACES Team Coordinators.

Also, the FACES Team will present an exciting opportunity to learn more about the opportunity of Visiting Guatemala for a Summer Program in 2022, that includes a wonderful Community Service Project with a local school in their country.
