GRCMS 8th Grade End of the Year Details
Friday, May 8, 2020
Dear GRCMS 8th Graders and Parents,
As May moves on, we recognize that we are getting closer and closer to the end of our 8th graders’ time at GRCMS. These final months of school have been a challenging way to end the school year, but the determination and perseverance of the students and staff during Off-Campus Learning have shown what we can do when we come together as a community of faith and learning. Thanks to each and every one of you for the role that you have played in making the past two months as successful as the previous six months. We are truly grateful and blessed.
FINAL WEEK OF SCHOOL YEAR
In planning for the final few weeks of school, I wanted to share the following details so that you know what to look forward to.
On Thursday morning, May 28, we will collect 8th graders’ laptops, chargers, school-owned instruments, library, and other school books. This will also be a time to pick up the personal items that are still left at school. We will have stations set up outside school for 8th graders to drop off their items and for us to return to them what is still in their lockers. More information will be sent out soon regarding the logistics of how this will work.
If 8th grade families would like to purchase their laptop to keep, they can do so for $ 250 on this day. The devices will be available the following week after being cleaned. You can pay with cash or check (made out to “GRCS”) on May 28.
VIRTUAL CELEBRATION AND GRADUATION
Thursday, May 28, at 7:00 pm
Due to the current distancing guidelines that we are living with, we know we cannot celebrate in person right now, but we are hoping to celebrate at the same time together. At 7:00 pm on May 28, we will have the premiere viewing of our 8th Grade Virtual Celebration.
We are creating a video celebration of the kids to share. We hope to premiere this via a Zoom session together at 7:00 pm. After this initial premiere, we will then have this video available online to share with other family and friends around the country and world.
Students will be receiving a message by Monday for things we would like them to contribute for this virtual celebration
Tuesday, August 11 at 7:00 pm — DeVos Center for Arts and Worship
We are reserving this date for late summer in the hopes that we will be able to gather and celebrate together prior to the kids starting their high school careers.
We understand that much could change between now and then — and the size of our gathering may be limited — but we wanted to get a tentative date set.
As more information becomes available throughout the summer for this graduation ceremony, we will connect with you about this event.
GET CONNECTED AT GRCHS
Finally, as we continue to look ahead to high school, the Athletic Department at GRCHS is sharing the following information to help kids to start to get connected to GRCHS and Eagle Athletics.
Step 1: Fill out this survey with your child's sports interests for 2020-21 school year - coaches will connect with you if you fill it out.
Step 3: Connect with HS Athletic Director, Jason Heerema and MS Athletic Director, Kevin Broene about your transition to HS on Tuesday, May 14. Jason and Kevin have scheduled two options for this; they will be 30-minute Zoom sessions at 12:30 pm or 7:00 pm (click below for links to the Zoom meetings). They will cover various areas of high school athletics, share advice and encouragement, and Q&A about what you know and think you know about high school athletics, participation, club sports, college recruiting, and more! The meeting is a scheduled 30-minute meeting.
If you have questions about anything related to this message, please e-mail Mr. Burgess at email@example.com. We continue to pray for your family and for good health and safety as we continue on. We are thankful for God’s provisions and mercies for each day.
Have a blessed weekend! Happy Mother’s Day to all of the mothers out there!
