Celebrating the Class of 2020

Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’”

I don’t know about you, but I find myself saying, “But God, I don’t like these plans. Please make other plans! Why are you allowing this to happen?”

In the midst of our frustration, James 1: 2-4 reminded us to “Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

We have spoken all year about God as our unchanging, immovable Rock. His promises are true yesterday, today, and tomorrow. Certainly, this is not the end to our seniors’ last year that any of us hoped for, but we know that God is writing their story in such a unique way. When I think about how God is using this season to prepare them and to make them “mature and complete” to impact His world, I am filled with hope for what is to come!

Today, on what would have been our graduation celebration, we celebrate our class of 2020! We celebrate the gifts that they have discovered and the many ways that they have grown over the past four years. We celebrate the mark that they have left on Grand Rapids Christian and the way their leadership has influenced all of us. We also celebrate what lies ahead and the promise that God has perfect plans to “prosper them” and to “give them hope and a future.”

Thank you, parents, of the class of 2020, for allowing us to be part of our seniors’ lives over the last four years. We look forward to the day when we can celebrate together, give hugs, and say our appropriate goodbyes in person!

In Christ,
Mr. Mockabee
