Iroquois Principal's Corner - August 23, 2022

Welcome to a new school year! It has been so great to see new and returning faces at the Iroquois campus this past week. A lot has gone into preparing for this new year, and we are eager to educate and nurture our beloved students.

In Psalm 119:105 we read “Your word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path.” The lamp the psalmist is referring to is not exactly bright. In fact, it’s about as bright as a candle, and shepherds would hang the lamp from string at about ankle height. The path the psalmist is referring to here is not a sidewalk or groomed nature trail. It’s a fairly dangerous path that is rocky, has a cliff on one side and a rock wall on the other, and has plenty of things to trip over. This path would be a typical sheep path you would see in Israel.

If we stop and study what the psalmist is saying here we will find that he is saying that a lamp will give us just enough light for the next step on our path. Not enough to see way in front of us, but just enough to be safe. The path ahead is still unpredictable, but the light of the lamp reveals a safe next step.

God’s Word gives us exactly what we need. It gives us just enough to take our next steps in life. If we expect much to be revealed, we will most likely be disappointed! Instead, through using God’s Word, and putting our trust and hope in him, we will know exactly what next steps to take.

In a new school year, let’s keep this in mind. For some, it’s a new school. Maybe a new teacher. Maybe you have life changes that have created some unknowns and are quite a challenge. God’s Word is there to help you with that next step. Put your trust in him each step of the way, and may our faith keep us safe on this journey.

I am truly looking forward to this school year. Thank you for your partnership with us. God bless!
