Forgiven

During the month of January at GRCMS, we focused on our district theme of ONE ANOTHER specifically on Forgive One Another. As I led our final chapel of the month, we focused on the fact that we also need to accept God’s forgiveness of ourselves.

We are called to forgive one another, but sometimes we have to start with a focus on the fact that God has first forgiven us through the gift of His son! “For we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).

Two of our eighth-grade Student Advisory Board members helped me out by performing a skit. There were only two characters in the skit, a middle school girl and an elephant. The elephant, who as we know, has a very good memory, does not let the young gal forget about the mistakes she has made in the past. She was sure that Jesus had forgiven her, but was confused by the elephant reminding her of her shortcomings. We ALL make mistakes.  We are human and it is inevitable. But God forgives us. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (I John 1:9).

In this broken and fallen world, we are reminded that God cares deeply for us. He did what seems to me to be impossible as a mom of three boys…he sacrificed his son for us! For you. For me. What an amazing message we can share with our children!  We will all make mistakes, but God knows this about us, and he has made a way for us through Jesus.  What an awesome message to share.

If music moves you, and you need a reminder of God’s forgiveness in your life, listen to the song Forgiven by Crowder that we finished our chapel with on Friday. Together let’s work on understanding God’s forgiveness of our sins and in turn use this understanding to Forgive One Another.
