Middle School Principal's Corner – February 7, 2023

We are in this Together

Grand Rapids Christian Schools is a member of the CESA Collective. CESA is the Council on Educational Standards and Accountability. This group and the many resources it provides have allowed me to be in communication with Christian schools across the United States. It has been a blessing to build Godly relationships with individuals in a similar position to myself.

Recently I attended a virtual class through CESA that focused on middle school student needs in today’s society. The reality is that one in three students deal with anxiety. And guess what!? One in three parents deals with anxiety as well!  So here we are. We are in this together. We want the best for our children. As parents and teachers, we want to grow them up to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society. We also want that for ourselves. It is contemporary society that is so tricky and keeps us guessing as to how we can best raise our children and conduct ourselves.

What can we do for our children?

Teach them to trust in God.

Teach them to have confidence in themselves.

Do not let children believe that they will not encounter struggles. They will! Middle school is not easy. You will not always get along with your friends. You will not always agree with your teachers. Life will be hard. Please continue to coach your children to be humble and respectful as they encounter these challenges. We ALL should expect challenges and we need to prepare for them by putting on the armor of God.

John 16:33 teaches us to focus on HOPE.  “In this world, you will have trouble.  But take heart, I have overcome the world.”
