THOUGHTFUL NEIGHBORS…

It’s always heartwarming to watch our students strive to live out the characteristics of the Portrait of a Graduate! Disciples of Christ, creative solution finders, justice seekers, thoughtful neighbors, communicators and collaborators, culturally competent, lifelong explorers.

It’s not easy to separate one characteristic from the other. We often find that they tend to meld together. Our students know these characteristics and we focus on them often throughout their time at GRCMS.

This week, some of our 7th and 8th grade Student Advisory Board members had an opportunity to demonstrate how to be Thoughtful Neighbors right in our school neighborhood!  A neighbor had reached out to see if we could help her rake up her leaves. The past year was especially cumbersome on her physical health and she remembered that GRCMS had previously reached out to her. Due to circumstances related to the weather, she did not have our students help with her leaves in the fall of 2021.

Upon learning of our neighbor’s need, our Student Advisory Board members eagerly agreed to help. They brought in rakes to get the job done, and gave up their lunch hour to help a couple of our neighbors clean up their yards. This act of service truly brought joy to our neighbors as well as the students as they jumped in to help out!

I Peter 4:8-11

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power forever and ever. Amen.
