Rockford Principal's Corner —February 1, 2022

In elementary school, “favorites” are a common topic of conversation. In fact, just this morning I was in a 4th-grade morning meeting where students shared about their favorite animals (Koalas and Big Cats seemed to be popular).

It is rare to hear anyone say that “mid-winter” is their favorite time of the year. The excitement of Christmas has passed and spring flowers feel a long way off. The days are short and often gray. It’s cold. 

Despite all this, there is a lot to love about this time of the year at Rockford Christian. Look at all that’s happening just this week alone!

  • Yesterday, 7th graders shared stories of God’s Grace in our weekly Family Time.
  • Tomorrow, K-3rd graders celebrate their 100th day of school with outfits and activities centered around the centennial.
  • The middle school hallways will be a little quieter this week Wednesday through Friday as 5th graders head to Camp Roger each day and 6th graders enjoy an immersive learning experience at the AuSable Institute. 
  • 8th graders take center-stage this Friday evening in their production of “Alibis”.
  • Mr. Phil is launching a school-wide winter Olympics challenge throughout the month. Each student in K-8 will compete in a variety of events as they try to earn points for their respective countries. 
  • February also marks the beginning of Black History Month. This month each class finds developmentally appropriate ways to honor the rich cultural heritage, triumphs, and adversities of the African-American experience that make up an indispensable part of our country's history.

Lamentations 3:22-23 reminds us that “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

Join me in thanking God for his daily compassions and faithfulness at RCS!
