Throughout this year, I’ve turned many times to Romans 12:9-21 to refer to our theme verses “Love in Action”. Just before that section, Paul talks about humble service in the body of Christ.
I’ve always liked the image of a community as a body. Verses 4 and 5 read, “For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ, we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Our community is no different. We all have different gifts, talents, and interests, yet it is because of these differences that we can function well as a whole.
For some, off-campus learning has been challenging and difficult. For others, the time at home and flexibility has worked really well. Regardless of how the period has been for you and your family, let us be reminded to share in each other’s joys and concerns, bringing both to Christ.
I am grateful for the way Rockford Christian embodies a Christ-centered form of community and look forward to the time when we can gather together again in person. In thinking about next year, we know school will likely feel and look different in some ways, but I pray that our commitment to living as a Christian community remains the same.
Folks often describe Rockford Christian as a family. Here people are known. On a zoom call with the PTO board last week, we talked about emphasizing this defining feature of our school and would love your support.
We are hoping to pair families new to RCS with a “Host Family” who would be willing to serve as a connection point and a good source of information about who we are and how things work. If you’re willing to serve as a host family please send me an email. The PTO is also looking for volunteers for some of our fall events like our back to school barbecue, Fun Run, recess duty, and the like. You might even consider serving on the board of PTO.
If you have an interest in any of these, please drop me a line at firstname.lastname@example.org.
