Dear Preschool Families,
I pray this note finds you and your family healthy and well. I want to start by thanking you for your continued support and patience as we prepare for the coming school year. If you are anything like me, you’ve probably felt a whole range of emotions about the upcoming school year.
Please rest assured that we have been working diligently to ensure that our early childhood program remains a safe, nurturing environment rooted in Christ.
The first day of preschool is Wednesday, August 26th or Thursday, August 27th, depending on your child’s registration.
Please look for an email at the end of this week from your child’s teacher with more information about what to expect on that first day.
In place of our typical visiting days, teachers will be scheduling short visiting times for small groups of parents and students to see their classroom and meet their teacher during the evenings of August 24th and 25th. Prior to your child’s visiting day, you can also expect to receive a preschool handbook that provides important information about our program. Please read that document carefully!
Many parents have asked me how this year will be different from previous years. In addition to increasing hand hygiene and classroom sanitation, teachers have been thinking carefully about ways to set and maintain realistic expectations for our students in regards to physical distancing. We set up classrooms with more room to spread out and will be spending regular portions of our day outside.
Our new Director of Outdoor Education, Mr. Phil Warners likes to say that there is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. In order to set up our students for success outside, we are asking families to invest in a one-piece trail/rain OAKI suit as part of their back-to-school shopping. Thanks to a school partnership program, RCS families can use the unique discount code “ROCKFORD” to save 25% on all orders over $29.99. If this purchase is a hardship for your family, please reach out to me directly.
Finally, a message from the principal wouldn’t be complete without a note about Pick Up and Drop Off. We thank you in advance for your help making the beginning and ending of our days as smooth as possible.
Please plan to drop your preschooler off at school starting at 8:30 am. Preschool teachers will be waiting for you at that time just past the main entrance. In order to keep things moving, we ask that your child be seated on the right side of your vehicle so that our staff can help them exit safely. We ask that all parents stay in their cars during pick up. Should you arrive before 8:30, you will need to wait in a parking spot. Families arriving after 8:40 will need to bring their child to the school office to be brought to their classrooms.
Parents picking up their child at 11:15 am are asked to park their car in the lot and wait for their child’s class to come outside. Once outside, you may meet your child and walk them back to your vehicle. All-day students will follow a similar procedure at 3:10 pm.
