Football PE Takeover

The week of February 8, GR Christian co-head football coaches took over 2 days of our PE classes. Our students had tons of fun running through football drills and learning about the game! If your student would like to try a bit more football fun, there are a few upcoming opportunities  - starting with three nights of flag football club later this month. Dress For It ❄️

Students will be going outside for break every day, no matter what the weather (pending windchill). Please have your student(s) dress appropriately for being outside.

Family Time

At Rockford Christian, we start each week with Family Time. Although we cannot yet gather in person as a whole community, we do not want to miss out on this important time of worship. You are invited to join us each Monday from 8:45 am — 9:00 am over Zoom.

Outdoor Education News

Spring? Is it here yet? Well, at least it promises to be wet and sloppy this week. Please pack that extra pair of socks. Believe it or not, the old bread bag trick my mother taught me might be helpful too. A couple of plastic shopping bags used as boot liners might just keep those little toes a bit dryer this week.

Thanks for your continued support for the Pop Can and Spare Change Fund! This month we were able to bless Mel Trotter Ministries with a check for $218.85! As we highlight Alaska’s Last Great Race, the Iditarod, this month our money will be used to help out the Paws with a Cause organization (https://www.pawswithacause.org).

Virtual Learning Reminder

Virtual learning is for covid related absences only. Parents MUST contact the school office with a 24-hour notice when requesting to move to Virtual Learning and so that students are properly accounted for in case of an emergency.

Moms, Dads, Grandparents in Prayer

We will meet outdoors, wearing masks, walking, and praying in groups of 2-3.

Recess Volunteers

Volunteers are needed daily to supervise children on the playground. Afternoon recess takes place from 12:20 pm — 12:55 pm (elementary until 12:40 pm and then continues to cover middle school until 12:55 pm).

For quick access to the staff directory, select Contact at grcs.org. To access the student and parent directories on the grcs.org Parent Portal, select Parents > Parent Portal and log in to your Parent Portal account.

Not sure how to login to your Parent Portal account? Go to the GRCS Tech YouTube channel to learn how to access the directories.

Food Service News

Free Meals and Snacks

Free meals and snacks will continue in January through the end of the school year. Enjoy!

Preschoolers both half-day and full-day and their younger siblings may pre-order lunch online. All orders must be placed by Monday at 8:00 am 

Food Service Workers

Grand Rapids Christian Food Service is looking for fun and energetic part-time staff. These positions are at the GRCHS and Rockford Christian Schools. Hours are 8:30 am — 1:00 pm.  Work involves standing for long periods of time, fast-paced, and some lifting. Limited experience needed, must enjoy working with students and a heart to serve.

Meal Pick-Up and Weekly Meals for Virtual Learners

Realizing some of our students are missing out on FREE meals in school,  we have provided curbside pick up for those students who choose to learn virtually. This will be a weekly form you need to complete each week by 9:00 am on that Monday. If you have any questions, please email Jill at jzondag.org.

Free and Reduced Lunch Benefits

We encourage you to fill out a meal application if you feel you would qualify for Free and Reduced meals.  For those of you that received a P-EBT card this past summer — a  debit card that offers grocery dollars for each child.  USDA passed a second bill to reinstate the program in January for virtual learners.  One of the criteria to qualify is to have an application filled out.

Athletics + Youth Sports

GRC Youth Sports and Recreation Programs  

Did you know, GRC has its own Recreation Department? We offer sports programs for GRCS students and students from the surrounding area. For a complete look at what we have to offer, go to www.grcs.org/youthsports.

Our programs will follow the same Health and Safety Protocols, as we are following at school. Masks for coaches, hand sanitizer for players, disinfectants for equipment, and social distancing will all be observed.

Sport cleats donations needed in February!  

• Your New 2 You Store is ready to revive those sports cleats that have been "sleeping" in your closets and garages.
• February is prime time to donate your baseball, soccer, football, lacrosse cleats before those seasons start.
• We'll clean them up for our annual sports cleats sale in early March.
• Used cleats sell well and our sale is a popular one — thank you, donors!
