YEARBOOK News!

Want to save $6 on this year's yearbook? Order online by October 8th (that's this Friday!) for the price of $19.

The price will go up to $22 and finally $25 throughout the school year. Staff members will receive a free yearbook. If you are ordering more than one, it is full price for the first and then $10 for each additional book. Click here to order.

8th Grade Portraits: It is RCS tradition for graduating 8th-grade students to have a portrait taken outside of school to include in the yearbook. This is often done by professional photographers or parents at home. Though this is not at all required, if you wish to send in a photograph, please do so by January 10th. If no portrait is sent, the one taken at school will be used in the yearbook. Images can be sent to Mrs. Yeates at jyeates@grcs.org and should be in jpeg format, as large as possible.

Business Advertisements: Do you own or run a business that you would like to promote in the Yearbook advertisement section? Ad prices run from $35-$200. Email Mrs. Yeates for more information! jyeates@grcs.org

Box Tops for Education

Help us earn money for RCS with Box Tops for Education. No more clipping! All you need is your phone! Download the Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit your school’s earnings online. Twice a year, our school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs!

Makerspace

We're looking to build a Makerspace in the Learning Commons. A Makerspace is an area of a classroom or Learning Commons that is reserved for creative exploration, engineering, tinkering, inventing, and purposeful play. In a Makerspace, children have opportunities to collaborate, discover, assemble, problem solve, construct, test, and explore using divergent, "outside the box" thinking. A Makerspace should inspire new passions for students and cater to their unique multiple intelligences.

You can help us by looking through items you may have at home and donate them for us to use in the Learning Commons. Here's a link to see if you have any of these items. For any questions, please contact Jackie DenOuden jdenouden@grcs.org.

Book Fair

The Book Fair is scheduled for October 13 through October 20. Please mark your calendars and be sure to stop by during the day or during parent-teacher conference times. You may also shop online starting on October 8. Your child(ren) will also have an opportunity to shop during their library time. We encourage you to set up your eWallet for a perfect and easy way for your child(ren) to shop without having to worry about cash! More information, including flyers and e-wallet information, will be coming home with your child(ren) this week.

We will also need parent volunteers to help out — if you are interested, please click here (Scholastic link) or here (SignUpGenius) — or email Carla Hardy at chardy@grcs.org. We greatly appreciate your help!

Parents in Prayer

We have a unique opportunity to gather as moms, dads, and grandparents to pray for our school — little siblings are welcome too!

Parents In Prayer will be meeting on Thursday mornings after drop-off. We will again be meeting outside and walking around the campus. We will follow the guidelines given by the Moms in Prayer organization. You can find the resources that we will use here.

We look forward to having many parents join us this year!

Recess Volunteers Needed!

We are in need of additional Recess Volunteers! To view what times are needed and to sign up, click HERE. If you have any questions, please contact Maria Axtman at maxtman@grcs.org.

A Note From Outdoor Ed

“What if it rains during outdoor education?” A common question among parents, but those of us at school know the answer. “We go outside.” Please know your outdoor education day and help your students to dress accordingly. If you have an extra raincoat or poncho, consider allowing your student to have it at school in a locker or in a cubby. Otherwise, the answer to the question will be, “We get wet and cold.”

Our Pop Can and Spare Change Project for the month of September raised $244.02 for our friends next door, the Brubakers at Grass Lake Orchard. Consider supporting them by stopping by their gazebo right along Belding Road. See what they have for sale as October unfolds. We love the Brubakers! Stay tuned to find out who our next month’s project recipient will be!

Kids Care Information

RCS is excited to offer Kids Care Before and After Care for registered families. At this time, Kids Care has very limited space. If you are in need of Before or After Care, please email Emily Jansen at ejansen@grcs.org.

For those who are currently enrolled in Kids Care, here are some reminders:

  • Kids Care will be taking place in Room 101, which is located in the first room in the elementary wing
  • Before Care: The front doors will unlock at 7:15 am. We ask parents to walk their children into the building.
  • After Care: For pick up, we also ask you to park and go into Room 101. Often in the afternoon, the students will be outside. If so, there will be a note explaining where they are exploring/playing.
  • Snacks are not provided during Before, and After Care, so you may want to pack an extra snack for your student.
