I graduated from Calvin College and received a Masters degree from MSU. I have taught 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders. This is my 36th year of teaching at GRCS! I coached track and cross country at GRCHS for 6 years in the 80's!

What is your favorite part of your job?
The kids! I love to help children learn and grow in their confidence in the school setting. Most of all, I treasure helping children learn to love God and his story!

Of all your time at GRCS, what special projects are you most proud of?
I enjoy partnering with our Inclusion program and families for over 35 years as an elementary teacher, helping with all-school programs, organizing the Eagles Running club with Linda Jongsma and participating in the Calvin Spring Run with preschoolers through high school students and GRCS families each year. I have mentored more than 20 student interns from Calvin College in my role as an elementary teacher.

Are there any extracurricular activities you lead or assist with?
I enjoy organizing the Eagles Running club (for 3rd and 4th graders) with Linda Jongsma and participating in the Calvin Spring Run with Preschoolers through High school students and GRCS families each year.

Anything silly or interesting you would like to share?
I love to garden and cut bouquets from my garden. My favorite flower is the hydrangea. I have more than 15 varieties of hydrangeas.

Which Portrait of a Graduate characteristic do you relate to most within your role, and why? Or, which characteristic do you try and exemplify most and why?
Disciples of Christ ~ I am grateful to teach in the Grand Rapids Christian Schools where daily we are mentoring students to follow Christ and learn about God through his Word. I am humbled to help children develop a sense of humility and service as they experience community with their school family.
