On April 18, 350 members of the GRCS community gathered for Black Tie Blue Jeans, Grand Rapids Christian Schools’ new signature event to support the Eagles Fund. It was a wonderful evening of celebrating our blessings as a community. The Eagles Fund impacts every student at GRCS by providing funding for financial aid, Student Support Services, and our fine arts programs.
In addition to presenting David and Carol Van Andel with the Richard M DeVos Distinguished Alumni Award for their generous philanthropic support of Grand Rapids Christian Schools and many other nonprofit organizations throughout the country and the significant impact they have had around the world, Black Tie Blue Jeans featured a performance by Laurie Veldheer who graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High in 2004 and has gone on to pursue a successful career in musical theatre. In her cabaret-style performance, Laurie shared how her education at GRCS laid the foundation for her to develop both her gifts and her faith and enabled her to actively put both into practice as she pursued her dreams, acknowledging God’s hand each step of the way.
It’s no secret that fine arts have a rich history at Grand Rapids Christian Schools, and Laurie is a wonderful example of how our program enables students to develop their God-given gifts and learn how to use them for His glory. We are proud of Laurie and her accomplishments and are equally proud of our current students who recently received some very exciting awards.
The Chamber Chorale at Grand Rapids Christian High was recently selected as one of two Outstanding Choirs in the state and will be performing in the prestigious Michigan Youth Arts Festival on May 19. This is a wonderful honor and is one of the highest possible achievements for choirs in our state! “I am so proud of these students and proud to be teaching at Grand Rapids Christian High School,” said Candace Sytsma, Choral Director at GRCHS. Throughout the festival May 18-20, several students and vocal and string ensembles from Grand Rapids Christian High will also be performing.
Please join us in congratulating and recognizing the 33 members of our Chamber Chorale, the students and ensembles listed below, as well as our outstanding fine arts staff for being selected to perform in this prestigious event.
