Evergreen Principal's Corner

Evergreen Principal's Corner — June 9, 2020

Dear Evergreen Families,

The last week of school is always bittersweet.  I look forward to our final chapel this week Wednesday when we will have an opportunity to worship together.  The final chapel of the school year also gives us an opportunity to honor and celebrate our Evergreen graduates.  These team three olders have provided leadership at Evergreen during Team Time, on the playground, and in many other ways.  We will miss them and we wish them well as they move on to sixth grade.

As we look forward to the 2020-2021 school year, GRCS school leaders are developing plans to meet the needs of our students and families in the midst of the current pandemic. The 2019-2020 calendar was adjusted to shorten spring break this past year.  With the approval of the Grand Rapids Christian Schools Board of Trustees, the Evergreen calendar has been changed to align with the other Grand Rapids Christian Schools for the 2020-2021 school year.

The calendar changes will provide consistency for families who have students on multiple campuses.  There is uncertainty about field trips and off-campus opportunities during the 2020-2021 school year.  If Camp Roger and Van Andel Institute's learning opportunities can be done safely, we will incorporate them as part of our Evergreen Curriculum.

Finally, aligning the Evergreen calendar with the other GRCS calendars for the 2020-2021 school year will allow Evergreen teachers to fully participate in professional development with the other GRCS teachers.

The changes to the calendar:

  • Eliminate the September 21-25 Fall Enrichment Week.
  • Eliminate the February 23-26 Winter Enrichment Week.
  • Shorten Spring Break by one week. Spring Break will be April 2-9. Classes will resume on April 12.
  • The last day of school will be Thursday, May 27.
  • The first day of school will be August 19 as previously scheduled.
  • The revised 2020-2021 Evergreen calendar will be sent to Evergreen families this week.

Please contact me if you have any questions.

Blessings to you and your family during these summer months.
