Grand Rapids Christian has several opportunities for students interested in robotics and problem solving on teams.

VEX IQ Challenge (IQ) is an introductory robotics program for students in grades 5-6 (at GRCS). Students work in small groups to design, build, and program a robot to perform tasks to score points on a game field. VEX IQ uses snap-in-place pieces for quick prototyping and testing. IQ is student-focused but requires much more supervision and family  involvement. Email coaches if you are interested. This program will launch in December 2023. Get more information about VEX IQ here.

VEX Competition Robotics (VRC) is a competitive robotics program for students in grades 7-12 (at GRCS). Students work in small groups to design, build, and program a robot to perform tasks to score points on a game field. VEX is student-focused meaning students do the work, not coaches. It develops skills such as creativity, teamwork, leadership, grit, and problem solving that are needed to be effective servants of Christ in contemporary society. Students in grades 7-8 will practice about twice a week in the evenings  from September through December. Some students may be invited to continue through until early March. The high school level is a bit more intense and students may practice up to six times a week, on afternoons and evenings. The high school season typically continues until late February with the potential of competing at the World Competition in late April. Get more information about VEX VRC here.

Registration varies based on the age level and program. Registration  includes a team t-shirt, all robot parts/supplies, and registration to all team events during the main season. We know this is an expensive program! To keep individual registration low, we have team sponsors, apply for grants, and participate in fundraisers. We also offer scholarships for families who need assistance (email coaches). Please register by following the links below (one to provide information and the other to pay). Email coaches with questions about the program or scholarships.
