Rockford Christian Principal's Corner

Rockford Principal's Corner — March 3, 2020

As the weather turns warmer, many of us start to think about spring. Children, in particular, are wonderful at picking up on the seasonal changes, from green shoots emerging from the ground to choruses of birds noting their arrivals.

Another season, Lent, is harder for us (kids and adults alike) to keep in the front of our minds, and so we intentionally look for ways to mark the season. Last week Wednesday, I came to school with ashes in the shape of the cross on my forehead. Most of the kids I saw were quick to point out that I had something on my head! It was a wonderful way to start a conversation about Lent — the time we reflect on Christ’s sacrifice for us and prepare for His triumph over death on Easter.

Yesterday during our Family Time, the second graders offered tangible ways we can make room, make space, and make time to remember and reflect on Christ during this Lenten season. In fact, the second graders had each Rockford Christian student write a prayer request on a strip of paper that they formed into prayer chains. Each day of Lent, in each class, students will be marking the season by taking a loop off the chain and raising each other’s prayers to God.

I encourage you to find ways as a family to make space, room, and time to reflect and prepare for the New Life in Christ we celebrate on Easter.
