The inaugural Black Tie Blue Jeans event on April 28, 2017, was a huge success with over 350 members of the Grand Rapids Christian Schools community gathering to enjoy a strolling dinner, celebrate our blessings, and raise support for the Eagles Fund.

JP Medawar ’18 opened the program with prayer and reflected on his experience at Grand Rapids Christian High over the last three years.

Keynote speaker Laurie Veldheer ’04 shared how her education at GRCS laid the foundation for her to develop her gifts and her faith and enabled her to actively put both into practice as she pursued her dreams. Her cabaret-style performance featured songs from various performances she has given over the course of her career and highlighted how she has seen God’s hand each step of the way.

The Richard M. DeVos Distinguished Alumni Award was presented to Dave ’77 and Carol ’77 Van Andel for their generous philanthropic support of Grand Rapids Christian Schools and many other nonprofit organizations in our local community and worldwide. Dave and Carol shared their passion for our schools and issued a heartfelt challenge to our community to continue to support our schools for generations to come.

We are pleased to report that over $464,000 has been raised for the Eagles Fund so far through Black Tie Blue Jeans.  These funds will impact every student through financial aid, Student Support Services, and investments in our fine arts programs.
