This March will provide an awesome time to prepare for and reflect on God's promise for us: "Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will act." Psalm 37:5
With that in mind, let me share a few things that will be happening at Grand Rapids Christian High School in early March. The State of Michigan requires all public schools to test all juniors on three specific days during the first full week of March. In order for non-public schools to also have the ACT paid for by the State of Michigan, students must take all three exams (the same as it has been for several years now). During these three dates-March 4, 5, and 6-GRCHS junior students will take the ACT plus writing, WorkKeys, and the Michigan Merit Exam (MME). More specific information will be sent to students and parents very soon.
As you know, it is very important that our students take these tests seriously. Because we want all of our students to understand the importance of these tests, we will be giving our freshmen and sophomores the PLAN, which is an ACT practice assessment. The PLAN results will be given back to students along with the testing booklet, so that every student and parent can understand what the ACT assessment looks like and have an "indicator score" for how the student might perform in one or two years on the ACT. A student's ACT score remains one of the key determiners of acceptance to specific colleges and universities.
In addition to the state testing in early March, there will be time devoted to worship and service. On March 4 there will be a special community
service day involving our 9th, 10th, and 12th grade students and our staff. Our school's mission statement calls us to prepare students to become effective servants of Christ, and great way to serve Christ is to serve our neighbors. There will be a special chapel and group discussions related to that on Thursday of that week. Then the entire school community will be in chapel on Friday, March 7, when we will together, as part of our annual Christian Life Renewal Week, observe the beginning of the season of Lent.
Please pray for our students and staff during this time as we participate in academic testing, use our gifts and talents to serve in our community, and seek to grow in faith during this Lenten season.
Take our lives, Lord. Take our intellect, our hands and feet, our lips and voices, our silver and gold, our wills, our hearts, our love. We commit it all to you.
