Reopening Plan

When Grand Rapids Christian Schools receives notification of a positive test result within our school community, we will notify parents and staff at the specific building. In addition, GRCS will work with the Kent County Health Department (KCHD) to identify close contacts and determine the proper protocols that need to be followed. KCHD will initiate contact tracing.

Enforcement Accommodation

Grand Rapid Christian Schools has submitted an Enforcement Accommodation Request to Kent County Health Department, which temporarily allows teachers and other essential staff who have tested positive for Covid to return to school after Day 5 of isolation from the onset of their symptoms or positive test (if their symptoms have improved and they have been without fever for 24 hours without taking fever-reducing medication). Teachers and other essential staff are required to provide evidence of a negative test (either rapid antigen or PCR test ) after Day 5 and, pending negative test results, will be required to continue to wear an appropriate, well-fitted face mask at all times on Days 6-10.  If the test is positive, teachers will be required to complete the 10-day isolation period and not allowed to return to school.  The Enforcement Accommodation will be reviewed and renewed as necessary every three weeks.

This Enforcement Accommodation is due to a severe substitute teacher shortage and the need for GRCS to provide the highest level of consistency of teachers and other essential staff.
